i was hanging out with my girl tonight while she had a relaxing spa time in the bathroom. she'd eaten a bunch of sugar because it's chris' birthday so of course there was cake. and starbursts. it made for a very chatty half hour and for once she wasn't talking about her toys or favorite computer games. she was talking about puberty and when she'll be old enough to shave her legs and things she wants to do in her life. she asked me what things i wanted to do when i was a kid that my parents wouldn't let me do.
well, that list was pretty much endless, so i just picked a few. one thing i told her that i'd wished to do when i was a teenager was to go on dates with boys. she looked surprised and asked why they wouldn't let me date. i told her that they didn't trust the boys to behave themselves.
i debated on whether it would be appropriate to explain any further, but before i said anything else, she shook her head and with a knowing look said, "they were afraid the boys would bring chainsaws and cacti, weren't they? those teenage boys can be very irresponsible with chainsaws and break delicate things like clocks or even your arm!"
and once again, she was my sweet, naive ball of childhood innocence. i'm so glad.
Awesome story as usual. That's such a cute photo as well, I love the hat your girl has on. It's always good for a child to remain as innocent as possible in my opinion so it's good to hear she's not at that mature stage just yet!
ReplyDeleteI should've told Mal that I wanted to go out on dates with boys. It would've been funny to watch him grab his chest and collapse onto our shag-covered toilet.
ReplyDeleteSeriously (surprise), tell her boys aren't to be trusted. Take it from one who used to be a boy during the Nixon Administration.
Enjoy these years of innocence as they pass far too quickly!! I still remember having a very candid sex talk with my daughter while driving - it's a miracle that I didn't drive off of the road over the comments that she had!
ReplyDeleteI simply adore this child!
ReplyDeleteWho knows where they get this stuff from? A great answer though and a beautiful pic!
ReplyDeletethat is too cute!
ReplyDeleteThis really made me smile. :)
ReplyDeleteHow funny and sweet... all wrapped up into one! But she is right...those chainsaws... *shiver*
ReplyDeleteHer picture is cuter than cute. She's such a sweetheart. Love this post, so funny.
ReplyDeletenice hat over there little lady!
ReplyDeleteAs a kid I always gave girls a pencil eraser.
ReplyDeleteI was naive and thought ALL rubbers were the same!
I can't remember what happened to my chainsaw.
My kids are 23 21 19 17, and I wish we were back where you are.....sometimes. They are at a very intesting age now, but, when I read this, it makes me a little sad. she is so sweet. where she came up with chains saws and cacti are truly from a little girl imagination.
ReplyDeleteAw, that's a nice story! I like it when kids stay as KIDS for as long as possible :)
ReplyDeleteShe's right you know. You can't let your daughters date those irresponsible boys unless of course, you send them out with a T-rex and some tweezers.
ReplyDeleteShe is so gosh darn cute! Chainsaws? YIKES.
ReplyDeleteYour ball of innocence is so damn cute!!
ReplyDeleteoh this is hilarious and wickedly awesome! Made my morning! ...and have I ever told you how sweet you are. Your comment was the sweetest ever!
ReplyDeleteI love the innocence of youth.
