when it stops being fun

a bloggy friend of mine posted the other day asking, "how long will you blog?" i'd never before thought of putting a time limit on it or planning an ending date. it's not a means to an end to me, but rather an outlet & a way to have some fun. i don't often have the chance to just indulge in foolishness & talk funny with my friends, so this has been a fun way for me to kind of do that.

however, in the past few days, i've gotten a little bit stomped on by a stranger on here. she felt the need to make a snarky comment on a post suggesting that a family can't be both honest (whatever crass places that may take us) and also be bible readers. like you can't love God & still make boob jokes. um... God made the boobs & all our other kibbles & bits & if we find humor in them, where's the harm? there was a second comment today, this time done anonymously, where i was told that i was sick & basically saying that i'm attracting the pervs by writing the trash that i write here. (don't bother looking for it, i deleted that one already & changed my comment settings to not allow anonymous writers anymore. sorry if you're one of the nice anonymous visitors.)

ever since i started reading the blogs of others about a year ago, i've stumbled across posts much like the one i'm writing now where the blogger is troubled by some snotty comment made by a stranger or someone they know who's too scared to use their own name. i never figured i'd attract enough attention from the world at large to get the kinds of comments i've read in the comment sections of others. but here we are & i don't especially like it.

i thank the friends of mine who jumped to my defense. i love you guys. i don't want to start any mud slinging. i just do this for fun. when it stops being fun, i guess that's the answer to the question of "how long will you keep blogging?"

  1. listen sweetie.... don't worry about those comments, seriously... There was a time when I would blog and use a swear word once in awhile like the word "bugger" and guess what, I would lose a follower. Every single time! No kidding! Drove me nuts and I use to have on the side bar a prewarning and then one day I thought, are you kidding me, if you can't handle some thing so simple, why do I want you following me anyways! You are hilarious Sherilin and I don't always comment to your blogs, but I do always read them... You keep going girl really! As for the others, well they can just bite our asses!

    Love ya darlin!

  3. Don't let the jerks bring you down. I just found you and think you are so fun! Don't you dare change a word. I've lost a few followers from time to time due to my occasional irreverance..I say, good riddence if they can't take a joke!

  4. you guys are nice & i appreciate the kind words. it's easy to say you don't care what anyone says, but it's another thing to mean it. i suppose i'm just trying to look at what i write & determine if i've crossed some line without realizing it. i'm open to constructive criticism, however painful it might be at the time, but i can't please everyone, hell, i wouldn't even dream of trying. but there are a lot of people who seem to relish any opportunity to make other people feel bad. i'm not wired that way. i try to avoid drama if i can.

  5. It's so easy to be bold behind a keyboard.
And a "Christian" like that doesn't know what Jesus really meant...and I'm not even a Christian and I know that!

  6. Some people will find anything to complain about and make snide comments. Sometimes it is almost like being able to "hide" behind their computer makes them feel it's OK to be mean. I've been on the end of it. I write articles on a writing site sometimes and when I first started I would get nasty comments. I have had people say nasty things about me on a forum and it doesn't feel good. Even when you know it's not true.

    I really enjoy your blog.
    It's very entertaining.

  7. I say put your blog back up there...nobody should make you feel in such a way that compomises your freedom of speech. Nobody should make you have to feel like you have to think twice about posting whatever the hell is on your mind. If they don't like what you have to say they don't have to freakin' read it! This is a form of artistic expression and no 2 people view art in the same manner. Art for centurys has left a bad taste in others mouths. You can't please the whole world and you never will, period. IT doesn't matter what you write, someone is gonna be jealous, rude, unkind or just plan nutso- so put your writing back up- DONT let them win... this is YOUR blog and nobody elses sista! XOXO

  8. stacie, sorry if i was unclear, i didn't delete anything i wrote, i deleted the rude comment calling me sick. didn't feel like giving it the honor of staying around. i won't let anyone else tell me what i can or can't write. i haven't yet & i don't plan to start. if my conscience tells me i'm off base, i'll take it down. otherwise, just leave if you don't want to read it!

  9. Ahhh, that hidden banner of anonymous. The one who has lots of opinions, but no name behind it, no spine to be accountable for it.
I got one of those once and it pretty much "threw me" for awhile. But I decided to still stay ME and be ME.......even if I don't know the ME/who behind anonymous.

what the heck. I like to believe God has a great sense of humor. There is a difference to just plain silly fun and what is mocking things sacred.
    come..on...
